Technology and pioneer spirit

Following a career that started in private banking and led to the board of directors for a Berlin insurance firm, Prince Max of Schaumburg-Lippe quite literally put his foot down – as a successful racing driver for Mercedes and BMW.
During his 15 years on the tracks he earned the nickname “Prinz Sause” (“Speedy Prince”) – or “Max Sause” to his family – and had a decisive influence on the early days of motorsports. With his team, he drove in the 1930s in Spa, Le Mans and Mille Miglia, leaving competitors in the dust and heading straight for the podium. So that they didn’t fall by the wayside during these endurance races, both driver and co-driver had to possess excellent driving skills, resilience and technical expertise – only half of the teams that started were able to live up to this challenge.

Max Sause is the namesake of our athletic chronograph.

VINTAGE LEATHER WATCH STRAPS

For automobile lovers

First appearing in 2013, to celebrate the annual YORK society rally – the YORK Concours Chrono – an athletic chronograph from the Max Sause collection. The special edition made of steel is designed with a watch face in the Schaumburg-Lippe colours of blue, red and white. The watch is operated with a Valjoux 7750 clockwork with an individually engraved rotor. All rally participants will be delighted to hear that they have been given the pre-emption right to this limited edition. Corresponding to the 30 race start numbers, only the watches numbered 1-30 have a hand-crafted wrist strap made out of the red seat leather from a vintage Mercedes 300 SL, famous for its distinctive gull-wing doors. Popular amongst collectors, these watches are strictly limited and – as is standard practice for YORK – only available upon request through the personalised concierge service and from certain selected partners.
